On July 23, 1996, the Dow fell 44.39 points, the third consecutive day of 35+ point falls, totaling 117.63 points in three days (over 2%). The market was rallying early on Tuesday, July 23, but in the early afternoon, Elaine Garzarelli issued a sell signal, and the Dow sold off rapidly after that. The Dow closed at 5346.55. A year later, however, it was up 50% (to 8000+) and 100% by 1999.
